For my project I am already working on Creativity and Innovation. The plan is to design a lesson unit where students will learn, reflect and apply their knowledge to creatively get involved in the production of a learning artifact. And finally, students will design an lesson plan where they can implement the technological tool they used in an educational environment.
That being said, I think I would add to that more brainstorming activities. For examples, a couple of videos where creativity is being fostered in schools and a TED talk of a creativity expert. Moreover, I would show some examples of learning products produced by former students in that class to give them a better idea of what is expected from them. By adding those resources, I believe I would providing students with more ideas and knowledge so that they could creatively accomplish their tasks.
Lucas,
ReplyDeleteI Like your project ideas for using the designe process to promote creativity. I also like the brainstorming process as a way to engage students in thinking about different options and ideas before beginning actual construction. I cannot count how many times I have thought about a task or project, started working, then see someone else's work and wish I had taken their route instead of mine. Displaying the work of former students is another great way to help the students see expectations- especially if you show examples that are great and examples that are not so great.
I agree that showing other students' work is a great way to open your students' minds to what they can do. I learn the same way. Having examples help so much more with setting expectations. Being a college level teacher, your students should be able to create some awesome projects because they are not as limited by the resources issues that grade school teachers face. I look forward to seeing what your students come up with.
ReplyDeletemodels are always great! I think that the 'cool tool' demos that we are using in this class could also be great for your project, but expand past 'cool tools' and consider a 'cool idea' approach. Have students research 21st century classroom techniques and share those ideas with the class. A little lesson or technique could jump start some amazing ideas from your students. I know that I have had several light bulb moments from reading a little tip or idea and then was able to create something that worked really well with my content and for my students.
